Most of my textiles are usually created by combining hand and machine stitching in a variety of threads and working them into layers of fabric or applying them to painted backgrounds, often using a soldering iron. I also work with found items and recycled materials wherever possible. I have a growing interest in handmade felt, both in two and three dimensions.
Taking inspiration mainly from the natural world, architecture and text I produce “story board” scenes with symbolism and figurative interpretations. You may also spot a pheasant or two in them!
My interest in painting and embroidery goes back to my primary school days. My passion really started with a one-day session “Design a Sampler” with a tutor from the Royal School of Needlework and following on from this I embarked on a City and Guilds Embroidery and Creative Design course at the age of 40.
I also participate in Surrey Artist’s Open Studios, Craft Fairs and undertake commissions.
