As a child I learnt to sew with my grandmother who had been a milliner. I graduated from Exeter University with a degree in Mathematics. It was not until I was living in the USA that I started to stitch again.
Firstly it was cross-stitch and tapestry and then when I returned to England and had small children I decided to study for my City & Guilds in Creative Textiles. It took me many years to complete both parts, starting the Part 2 on 3 separate occasions. It was third time lucky and I finished in 2010.
I have exhibited with Spectra and the Dorking branch of the Embroiderers Guild. I also belong to another group called Stitched Up Textiles who will be exhibiting in 2013 for the first time.
My first love is hand stitchery as I find it very relaxing but as it is so time consuming I often incorporate pieces of machine embroidery along with the hand stitching.
